Complication of post-infectious bronchiolitis obliterans (Swyer-James syndrome).

چکیده
Swyer-James syndrome is a complication of post-infectious bronchiolitis obliterans that causes inflammation and fibrosis of the bronchial walls. There are two types: asymptomatic, with most cases diagnosed in adults during routine radiological examinations; and symptomatic, most commonly found in children. Here, we report the case of a 6-year-old child with recurrent dyspnea since the age of 3, who showed signs and symptoms of bronchiolitis obliterans and radiological signs of bronchial wall thickening and air trapping. The clinical and radiological findings led to the diagnosis of Swyer-James syndrome. Treatment of this syndrome is intended to reduce the pulmonary lesions and improve the patient's quality of life.

Swyer-James-MacLeod syndrome (SJMS), or unilateral hyperlucent lung syndrome, is a rare disease thought to be associated with post-infectious bronchiolitis obliterans (1). This disease was first described in 1953 by Swyer and James in a 6-year-old child who had been treated with pneumonectomy (2). MacLeod presented a unilateral hyperlucency series one year later. From this date on, the disease ...

INTRODUCTION Swyer-James-MacLeod syndrome or unilateral hyperlucent lung syndrome is a rare entity associated with postinfectious bronchiolitis obliterans occurring in childhood. It is characterized by hypoplasia and/or agenesis of the pulmonary arteries resulting in pulmonary parenchyma hypoperfusion. CASE PRESENTATION Here we report the case of a 53-year-old Caucasian woman with Swyer-James...
متن کاملRegional ventilation/perfusion mismatch pattern in patient with Swyer James (MacLeod's) syndrome
Swyer James (McLeod's) syndrome (SJMS) is an uncommon disease, which occurs as a result of childhood bronchiolitis obliterans. Patients may not be diagnosed until later in their life. A 46-year-old man underwent ventilation/perfusion scintigraphy for acute onset of dyspnea. The scan showed markedly diminished ventilation and perfusion unilaterally on the right middle and inferior lobes. However...
متن کاملDiagnosis and treatment of constrictive bronchiolitis
Constrictive bronchiolitis is a bronchiolar airway disease that surrounds the lumen with fibrotic concentric narrowing and obliteration. The mosaic pattern seen on the expiratory high-resolution chest CT scan is diagnostic in an individual with shortness of breath, early inspiratory crackles, and irreversible airflow obstruction. Swyer-James-MacLeod syndrome is no longer considered a congenital...

Swyer – James syndrome (SJS) was first described by Swyer and James in a 6-year-old child in 1953 (1). The following year, MacLeod reported nine patients with unilateral pulmonary hyperlucency (2). SJS is a rare disease characterized by a hyperlucent lung or lobe, usually of normal or small size, associated with air trapping and diminutive pulmonary vascularization (3). Swyer-James syndrome app...
